Sport
Participation in sport and physical activity is an essential part of the lives of our students. Through such participation students gain significant health benefits.
All students in years four to seven are given an opportunity to participate in school sporting activities each year.
So that each child is provided with the opportunity to participate and develop skills, sport is conducted in the following manner.
Inter-school Sport
Junior, Intermediate and Senior Teams selected from Years 4-7 participate in the interschool sporting program most Friday afternoons (Year 4 playing modified rules). Teams are selected according to interest, age and skill levels and are expected to practise during the week with their coach.
Summer Sport
Softball, T-ball, Cricket, Diamond Cricket, Tennis, Touch Football
Winter Sport
Netball, Rugby League, Soccer for boys and girls and Tennis
Each year some of our children are selected to represent the district, region or even the state in the sports listed above. If selected, such children will be required to attend team practices, which may be held at other schools.
Intra-school Sport
The intra-school sporting program provides students with an opportunity to learn skills from a variety of sports rather than focusing upon the skills of a single sport. Students are involved in rotational activities on Friday afternoons.
Carnivals
Term Two
Cross Country Carnival (Yrs 4 - 7)
Term Three
Athletics Carnival (Yrs 4 - 7)
Junior Sports Day (Yrs 1 - 3)
Term Four
Swimming Carnivals (Yrs 1 - 7)
Sports Houses
The houses and house colours are:
Resolution - red
Investigator - blue
Fortitude - gold
Endeavour - dark green
Sports houses are named after important ships. House colours should be worn to all interhouse sporting meets. Children are allocated to a house when they enrol at the school, and are usually placed in the same house as older brothers and sisters (or in some cases, parents!).
All children are expected to compete in carnivals unless medical reasons prevent this.
Each house has a captain and vice-captain. These students have an important responsibility to help members of their house prepare for the sports day and to help teachers organise and run all of the events. Junior Vice-Captains are also elected to gain experience at leadership.
