The Prep Year
Preparing for School - A Preparatory Year for Queensland
The Queensland Government wants to ensure our children have the best possible start to formal schooling.
Since 2007, all Queensland children of appropriate age have had access to a full-time preparatory year. At The Gap State School, three new purpose-built classrooms were constructed for this change and they have since been air-conditioned.
Children born between 1 July 2004 and 30 June 2005 will be eligible for the preparatory year at The Gap in 2010.
Prep students attend classes five full days a week. They undertake play and creative and inquiry-based activities that foster early literacy and numeracy skills, communication skills and a sense of self and others.
