The Gap State School

School Facilities

Learning Technology Centre (LTC)

Established in 2003, the LTC is located within the Resource Centre. It contains 16 networked computers with internet access in an air-conditioned room, and can be used for multimedia-based lessons by teachers across the year levels. A large screen at the front of the room, and a data projector linked to the teachers’ computer, allows teachers to demonstrate skills for students. The LTC is used throughout the day for class lessons and for student recreation during break times. It is also available for use by community groups outside school hours.

Library Resource Centre
Library Resource Centre

The school has a bright, fully automated, air-conditioned Library Resource Centre. Access to the Learning Technology Centre, that houses sixteen networked computers, is through the Resource Centre. A full time teacher-librarian and a part-time teacher aide manage this valuable area of the school. They are helped by a reliable group of volunteers.

The Library Resource Centre is open before school at 8.30 am. It is also open at both breaks during the day. All classes attend regular library sessions that are planned by the teacher-librarian and teachers. These lessons focus on information literacy and literature. Students are encouraged to borrow books regularly.

An extensive collection of resources, including junior fiction, fiction, non-fiction, reference and teacher reference, big books, books on tape, videos, charts, picture sets, kits and computer software is held in the Resource Centre. Information about these resources, as well as satellite collections held in the reading room, special needs department and Years 1 and 2, is available to staff and students through the ALICE inquiry network in the Resource Centre and classrooms.

Recreation Areas
Playground

The suburb of The Gap is renowned for its bushland setting and beautiful trees. This is reflected in the school recreation areas which offer open grassed areas, shady spots under trees, and a number of sporting and recreation facilities including volleyball, netball and tennis courts; cricket nets and pitch; undercover handball courts; and two shaded adventure playgrounds.

Swimming Pool
Swimming Pool

Opened in 1968, the heated 25 metre pool is situated in a central position in the school grounds. With a retractable shade cloth cover, it provides a safe and pleasant environment for students to participate in swimming and life saving lessons, as part of the health and physical education program.

The pool is also the home of The Gap Gators Swimming Club (run by a sub-committee of the P&C Association) and is leased to a private contractor outside school hours for swimming lessons and squad training.

Special Education Unit (SNAP) - part of the Mount Coot-tha Special Education Unit

Situated upstairs at the eastern end of E Block, the SEU consists of a classroom and office area. Known within the school as the SNAP Room, this area is the hub of special education programs and staff within the school. Facilities include an extensive information library for teacher and parent use, specialised resources for teaching students with disabilities, computers and play materials.
