The Gap State School

Year 5

Classes

Year 5 is an important year for our students. For the first time, students can vote for student leaders, and many begin playing sport in teams representing their school.

Programs

Year 5 curriculum programs are centred around the early history and settlement of Australia. Studies include Indigenous Australians, Convicts, First Settlement, Early Exploration, The Gold Rush, Bushrangers and the discovery and settlement of the site of Brisbane.

Outdoor Education Experience

Our four day camps are held at Lake Ainsworth Sport and Recreation Centre which is situated on the NSW North Coast. The centre occupies 99 hectares of beachfront land and offers a unique outdoor experience with its beaches, freshwater lake and bush surrounds. Lake Ainsworth

Lake Ainsworth
LAKE AINSWORTH

There was a buzz of excitement in the air as the bus drove towards the two minute zone, for this was the bus that would take us to the 2004 Lake Ainsworth Camp. It was 6.30.a.m and we were laden down with sleeping bags and suitcases. Mrs O.Donohue, Mr K. and Mrs Platz strode onto the bus and counted us on. The engine started and finally we were off!

Finally, after four long hours, we arrived at the camp. We were right in front of the beach and beside Lake Ainsworth. We went inside and settled in. The bunks were really comfy. The following days were full of rushing to each activity, eating the staff’s great cooking then going to another activity! We did archery, swimming, canoeing, sailing, grass skiing and lots of other great stuff. We learnt survival skills and played some really fun sports. After four days we were heading home again. It had been one of the best camps I had ever been on. Oh well, at least there is Year 6 camp on Moreton Island to look forward to next year!
